I decided that I should reward myself with a week (actually 11 days) of vacation, when I went to N. Cal. for my family's annual sporting events. What an 11 days.
5/17 travel, drive from Oakland to Stockton, visit with brothers and nephews into the evening.
5/18 Golf, napping, dinner and poker (didn't do very well, except for napping and dinner)
5/19 return to Oakland, go to the Oxford reunion
5/20 visit with my brother in Oakland
5/21 ditto, then drive to Sacramento, stop at the Calif. State RR Museum
and meet with a Sr. Curator to discuss the logo for the
V&T. Tour the Musuem. Drive to Granite Bay and stay with my wife's
brother and his wife.
5/22 A day of rest, read a book and finished a small gardening chore
my brother-in-law had started on Sunday and quit when he
was drenched by rain.
5/23 took a day trip to Carson City, NV and Virginia
City. Visited the Nevada St. RR Museum, managed a tour of a model manufacturer
in Carson City. Had hoped to locate a gentleman in Virginia City who runs
the resurrected Virginia & Truckee RR that runs from Virginia City to
Gold Hill. This person made a patch of the V&T logo and I have been
trying to find a source for that for a long time. At any rate, the operation
wouldn't open until the 25th. Took pictures, including snow in the Sierra's
in late May.
5/24 drove to San Jose, went to the Train Shop, met the
young lady I took to the Senior Prom (Jane) and her husband, son and son's
girl friend for dinner at Harry's Hauf Brau. Spent the weekend with Jane
and her husband.
5/25 Went to the Tech Museum.
5/26 helped prepare for the South Bay Fremont HS mini reunion and attended same.
5/27 went to Marin County to help a friend of Jane and
her husband celebrate his 60th birthday.
5/28 return to Phoenix and cut the grass in the 99 degree temperature.
My wife said she hadn't seen me as relaxed as I was when
I returned home, in a long time. I enjoyed my busy week.
