Robert L. Boone's Page

I attended kindergarten at Oxford "grammar school " in 1922, and graduated from there to attend Garfield Junior High and Berkeley High while living at 1939 Mariposa Avenue, which is the second house from Terrace Walk, which we called "The Daisy Path" for obvious reasons.

My older brother William and younger sisters Lois and Frances also attended all three schools.

All four of us are alive and reasonably well, I living in Walnut Creek, my brother in Pebble beach, sister Lois in Naperville, and sister Frances in Houston.

I completed my Berkeley education with a BA in economics from Cal, Class of 1939.

A couple of things: My brother has been doing our family tree and lived on at 1039 Mariposa Avenue and probably has photos of the house and maybe others on
the street. Perhaps they would compliment your great pages.

Do you know the name Louie Stein?  If not, he was a druggist way up on The Arlington and had a huge collection of old time Berkeley photos he took. They
are surely at the Library or University.

Son of Dr. William R. Boone M.D. and Lucille Cowan Boone.

Mara French's reply to Bob's message:

Mariposa and Amador are my favorite streets in Berkeley.

I've been doing the genealogy on our family, surname "French."  We lived at the top of Los Angeles Ave, to be exact, 2210. This house was built by Louie Stein or his son in 1921. Apparently Margo Quinn, who lived next door in the 1908 house, was a young girl at the time and took many photos of it being built. When Margo died, the photos went to Nancy Adamson on Oxford St.  I still haven't seen them. Somehow the name Rudger fits in with Louie Stein - maybe his son was Rudger Stein. Margo talked a lot about Louie, and before he died, he contributed all his photos to the Berkeley Historical Society. That article was printed up in the Berkeley Alumni Association newsletter.  I'm not sure about the "druggist" and "carpenter" trades--how could that be?
